Lenovo ideapad Miix310 10.1 Inch 64 GB eMMC Tablet review 

I don't know a whole lot about computers, and predominantly got Lenovo ideapad Miix310  for light web surfing, taking notes, and reading news articles/PDFs while on travel, at conferences, etc. I wanted something light and small enough to throw in a larger purse, but also was more comfortable for typing than my phone or iPad 4. I also definitely did not want an Apple machine as a specific program I need to use does not work on Apple. The Surface Pro was very interesting, but I couldn't justify the cost since I have an Apple laptop and iPad (despite both being 5-7 years old are still kicking), plus a clunky work laptop and my SO's desktop, so it's not like I don't have other computing options in a pinch.

After researching and reading a bunch of reviews that I half understood, I settled on this Lenovo ideapad Miix310 . It's not a powerhouse, and if you need something more like a full laptop this might not fit the bill. However, for what I need it's perfect. I added on a 64GB card to expand the memory, and was able to figure out how to get it to work fairly easily. The keyboard is small, but I've gotten used to typing on it and appreciate the small size (might be helpful to turn off the tap=click for the mousepad, that's my biggest problem). It's heavier than the SP keyboard, but at the same time that makes it easier to use on my lap which is nice. So far it's booted up pretty quickly, and if you're careful with memory usage then it's fine (I'm mostly storing files on USB flash drives or cloud drives, reserving the computer's memory for actual apps). The screen is a bit shiny, but I don't really mind it. The sound also isn't great, but I don't plan on using this without headphones so again it doesn't really bother me. I'm not sure if this model is LTE-enabled. It has a slot for a SIM card, but I don't know if that means there's also an antenna installed or if they use the same slot for every model. Since I don't have an extra SIM card I can't really try it out.


There is so much I like about it, Lenovo ideapad Miix310  might be helpful to list what I don't like first.
What I don't like:
Lenovo ideapad Miix310 Charging. Seems like a design flaw but the charge cord does not want to stay connected. I have to really fiddle with it to charge, and even then if I move it wrong it will stop charging. The red light indicates it's charging, so make sure you see it. Also, why couldn't they just have this charge with a standard micro USB like my Android tablets and my phone? There's a special chunky cord for this one. I am not a fan.

Not much internal memory. I ran out of room QUICKLY. Had to use the SD card. This can be up to 64gb according to Lenovo. I only had a 32 on hand. But in my experience, sometimes you can use a higher card than recommended and get away with it. For instance my phone is a max 64gb card too, but I have a 128gb installed and it works fine. If you have a bigger card, try it. I certainly would. It won't hurt anything, at worst the machine just won't read it.

The SD Card slot is a big pain to get out. I had to pry it open with a toothpick. I really thought I was going to break it. There is no way to get at it without some sort of tool to help.

Small keyboard is a bit hard to get used to. Not necessarily bad because the keyboard has to be small... but I should note that I do not like typing on it too much due to the size. I would not use this to blog for instance. I constantly mistype words because my fingers are not used to being that close together. But on the flip side of that, having the integrated keyboard is amazing and makes this more useful than it would have been as just a tablet... my preferred use is for short emails and web searches and things like that.

Camera is nothing to brag about. 5 mp / 2mp respectively.

What I really like:
Battery life is INCREDIBLE. Watched Netflix for hours and still had a lot of battery left. So awesome!

Laptop and tablet in one provides more opportunity for use. Took this with me last weekend to the lake. Was able to check in at work and do some minor tasks that I couldn't have with just my phone. This thing is so much more portable than a bigger laptop. But you also get the tablet feature which is great. Touchscreen for both uses, of course.

Windows 10 is just like my laptop. It works and acts just like my laptop. There was no learning curve at all. Loved that.

USB Ports. This is so great. I can use a mouse!!! Or if I wanted to hook to my printer directly and print... I can. Or if I want to hook up my external CD drive.... I can do that too. And you get two ports.

Winbook TW700 speakers aren't great but they are loud, and there is a Bluetooth connection, So no biggie.

Winbook TW700  is a true windows machine. Windows doesn't have a huge AppStore like Apple or The Google Play Store, but I don't think people buy windows products for apps anyways, so....
I would easily compare this to a Surface Tablet, kinda of a surface tab mini.
It is definitely worth the money. Because there are not a lot of apps, young children might not care too much for it, but you could use it as a learning machine!
It feels sturdy in your hands, once again, not like the other tablets at this price point.
It is a keeper!

I have been using Winbook TW700 since I bought it. The only negative I have is the speakers are bad, but headphones and Bluetooth speakers work well.
I buy my text books from Amazon Kindle. And I have found that I can use this machine for books and type on my iPad... or vice versa..
I am in love with the micro hdmi. My media player went out yesterday, I ran out to pick up a micro hemi to hdmi plug, and hooked it up. It is working well.

 I am happy to say that the microsoft surface pro 3 review has improved on a lot of those limitations. It is an overall better experience. In this review I intend to give you an idea of what it feels to use the Surface Pro 3 and at the same time compare it with the Surface Pro 2 in case you are deciding to purchase that one.

1. As soon as you take a look at the microsoft surface pro 3 the first thing you will notice is how much bigger it is in comparison to   Microsoft surface pro 2. The display in the Surface Pro 3 has been increased to 12 inches and it makes a big difference in the user experience. Running the laptop in desktop mode is much more enjoyable now. The new 3:2 aspect ratio is much better optimized to use with the desktop applications for Windows. It makes for a more polished experience and comfortable experience. The Surface Pro 3 screen is also very responsive just like the Surface Pro 2 was. The resolution in the display was increased a little bit but I can't really notice much of a difference. Both of the displays have very nice color accuracy and look gorgeous. The only flaw I see in the display is that now all of the videos in Netflix, YouTube and media players have black bars on the top and bottom just like you see in modern TVs. The Surface Pro 2 did not have those borders. It is a real shame that the Surface Pro 3 is not taking advantage of the increased size of the display when it comes to videos. This appears to be because of the 3:2 ratio i mentioned before.

2. The experience on the microsoft surface pro 3 is very fast and fluid. It is much faster than any android tablet on the market or the Ipad for that matter. It is not a fair comparison though because the processor in the Surface Pro 3 is simply much faster than the one in the Ipad. The model I am using has a i5 processor that has been running wonderfully. Everything that I throw at it loads up in an instant. I have not experienced a single stutter in the last couple of weeks. I always have several applications running in the background such as Spottily and Utorrent. I also have a really bad habit of having 10-12 tabs opened in Google Chrome at all times. Not a problem with the Surface Pro 3. Honestly, it is not a problem for the Surface Pro 2 either. The boot times are pretty awesome too. You know how it takes your old computer a couple of minutes to boot up and have everything ready to use? If you buy a Surface Pro 3 your computer takes only about 15 seconds to have everything up and running and ready to use. The only thing I have not tested in this laptop has been gaming. I am fairly certain it can probably handle light games but will probably have a harder time handling heavy duty games since it doesn't have a dedicated graphic card. Maybe the i7 model can but I can't really say.

3. Another hardware improvement in the Surface Pro 3 over the Surface Pro 2 has been weight reduction and a much thinner design. The Surface Pro 2 looks like a fat brick compared to the new Surface Pro 3. The overall weight reduction is not dramatic but noticeable, especially when you are using it as a tablet. The Surface Pro 3 feels less dense than the previous model. It is still not as comfortable to use as an Ipad when you have it in tablet mode but it has definitely being improved. Browsing the web and reading the news in tablet mode is better than on the smaller Ipad. I had a hard time going back to my old Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 when I stopped using the Pro 3. It just feels small in comparison. If you were turned off by the aesthetic of the Surface Pro 2 then you will probably appreciate the improvements that the Surface Pro 3 brings to the table.

4. One of the weakest points that the Surface Pro 2 had last year was the keyboard. The Type Cover 2 from last year provided a nice typing experience but the track pad was a complete disaster. It was very small and uncomfortable to use. There was no way around it. This year however the track pad has received a big upgrade. The track pad is much bigger and the left and right buttons are much more tactile. Every time I had to do a right click on the Surface Pro 2 I wanted to throw the laptop out the balcony. It was that bad. The Pro 3 doesn't have that problem. Besides the extra size in the display this has been the biggest and most satisfying improvement that the Surface Pro 3 brings. The keyboard also has a magnet that connects itself to the laptop that raises the keys. It is a nice addition that makes the typing experience more comfortable.

5. The kickstand in the Surface Pro 3 provides a lot of flexibility over previous versions. This is how it should have been from the beginning. I can use the computer as a laptop just about anywhere now. It definitely provides more comfort when you are trying to use on your lap or while sitting on the bed. The improvement in the kickstand has made me use the computer more as a laptop than a tablet.

Cons-

1. One of the limitations that the microsoft surface pro 3 has is the lack of USB ports. I think it is ironic that Microsoft keeps advertising that the Surface Pro 3 as the tablet that can replace your laptop. Apparently they missed the memo that just about every laptop has at least two USB ports. This computer only has one. Sometimes I like to use a wireless mouse that comes with a USB receiver, that takes away the possibility of plugging in a USB flash drive or anything else. Microsoft opted to add a Mini Display Port that almost nobody is going to use as opposed to a second USB drive. This was one of my criticisms of the Surface Pro 2 and Microsoft still has not fixed it. It is really baffling.

2. The Surface Pro 3 is a pretty powerful computer that can handle some serious workload. Unfortunately one of the downsides is that it can get pretty hot with intensive use. This is not a problem when you are using it as a laptop with the kickstand because the heat is not placed in your lap but it can be irritating when being used as a tablet. The hot spot is located in the top right corner of the laptop when used in landscape mode. It becomes more manageable when used in portrait mode. You learn to adjust after a while.

3. The microsoft surface pro 3 is a very fast, very nice and very expensive laptop. The entry level price of the laptop starts at $799 dollars and that is without the keyboard included. The keyboard is going to cost you an extra $130 dollars. If you are a student don't forget there is a 10% discount on both the keyboard and the computer if you buy it directly from Windows. I am not sure if other retailers like Best Buy are offering a price match on that promotion. All of the accessories that Microsoft sells for the Surface Pro 3 are just as expensive. One word of CAUTION with the $799 model. It only comes with 64 GB of storage out of which only about half of is usable. But not only that, the updates that Microsoft releases monthly take a lot of storage over the life of the tablet. I made the mistake of purchasing the 64 GB model with the Pro 2 and it ended up being a mistake. After 6 months I only had about 11 GB left. The laptop comes with a Micro SD card slow where you can store movies and pictures but the Microsoft Updates have to be stored on the hard drive, there is no way around it. The $999 model comes with double the storage and a better processor. It is a better value for your money.

4. Another year has passed and Microsoft still has not managed to improve the App Store. It is still lacking. It is very inferior to the Google Play Store and the IOS App Store. The advantage the Surface Pro 3 has is you can install any Windows legacy program that you want. That includes the full Microsoft Office suite. The lack of quality apps on the Microsoft Store is going to be a turn off for those of you that plan to use this computer more as a tablet than a laptop.

5. The battery life in the Surface Pro 3 has been improved marginally over the Surface Pro 2. I would say it is about 15% better. I manage to get around 7 hours of use. That was while using it mostly for light things such as web browsing and listening to music. If you start streaming videos on Netflix and YouTube and crank up the brightness to 100% then it will last between 4-5 hours. That is average for modern ultrabook laptops but mediocre at best for tablets. I know the Ipad can easily handle 10 hours.

Google Nexus 9 one beast of a tablet, tamed by a FINALLY well polished 5.0 Lollipop OS. Is it a perfect tablet? I think you can find fault with any tablet, whether Apple or Android. But, the HTC Nexus 9 is BY FAR the closest anyone has gotten.

Much ado has been made about the i Pad Air 2, and rightfully so, although IOS 8 still has a few bugs to work out, so its inevitable that the Nexus 9 is going to be compared. Let's just cut to the chase. For me, at least, I can say something I never thought I'd be saying: I'll be returning my Air 2. Here's why:

Form Factor

The Google Nexus 9 got this just right. The switch to a 4:3 aspect and 8.9 inch screen puts it right in the sweet spot between the 7 inch tablets or the iPad mini series, both of which often had text just a little too small, and the 10.1 tablets or the full sized iPad, which offer a comfortable viewing experience while being considered just a bit cumbersome when considering portability. The 9 very nicely fits the Goldilocks space of being "just right". You get the 7 inch wide screen for movies AND the extra real estate of the 4:3 aspect for games, web surfing, and eBook reading. You get the best of both worlds while still being comfortable and well balanced for single hand use. The 9 just feels right!

Screen
Let's get Google Nexus 9 out of the way: the AMOLED screens in the Samsung S series tablets are unbeatable. There. But,I can absolutely say that the 9's screen is every bit as good as the Air 2 (with the exception of the Air's anti reflective coating), offering an identical resolution, but with higher DPI, giving the 9 the edge in sharpness. It's bright, bold, and beautiful, with a full color range that gives accurate representation while providing a nice "pop".

Sound
Nobody really expects much from a tablet as far as sound is concerned. With the exception of the Kindle HD 7, which had exceptional sound, tablets offered generally bland, tinny, unimpressive audio. Looking at the tiny slits of the front facing speakers of the 9, you'd expect more of the same. The reality is, however, not only impressive, but downright awesome sound that easily surpasses anything out there for tablets. Great high to mid tones. Does it lack bass? Absolutely. But it's the closest thing you'll get without turning to headphones. The aural experience of these speakers with the 5.1 Dolby surround turned on is not simply technically impressive; it genuinely adds immersiveness in watching movies. Extremely impressive. The 9's sound is really that good.

Build

The i Pad build is unmatched...I won't make excuses here. But I can say that the Google Nexus 9 is well made, and the plastic back makes perfect sense to you when the NVIDIA K1 kicks into high gear. The upper left side, when in landscape, gets really warm. If they'd used an aluminum back, some would undoubtedly find the heat uncomfortable. Which brings us to:

Performance
Brace yourselves. Speed is coming. Three words: HOLY FREAKING' CRAP! 53,223 in An tutu? Are you kidding me?!? I briefly held the number 1 spot in the top 200 An tutu scores. By a wide margin. A very wide margin. What you get from all this power is silky sweet navigation, browsing, and absolutely killer gaming. Imagine yourself as a kid flopping belly first onto a Slip n Slide for the first time. That's what using the Nexus 9 feels like. But obviously, this is also probably due to the...

Operating System

Lollipop is GOOD. Very, very good. It is well polished, vastly more simplistic while also being far more capable than any previous Android version. How much better is it? Let's just say that you'll recognize the icons. That's where the familiarity ends. Put an R in front of evolutionary, and that will describe how much better Android 5.0 is. Google absolutely knocked this out of the park. And over the outfield bleachers. Into the parking lot. Where it broke the windshield of a car with an Apple logo on it.

Negatives
Let's face it. 32 GB of storage barely cuts it anymore. I dearly wish that HTC and Google would have allowed micro SD expansion (a big plus that has always distinguished Android from Apple), or at LEAST dropped the 16 gig model and offered a 32 and 64 gig version instead. And that's honestly the only real criticism I have about this tablet.

Conclusions

Don't get me wrong... I'm not claiming that you'll find the HTC Nexus 9 to be better than the iPad Air 2. That's a matter of preference. What I am saying is that finally, FINALLY we have an unequivicable Android alternative that's every bit an equal, on virtually every level, that even the most dedicated Apple fanboi would have to begrudgingly acknowledge. Let me put it this way: I enjoy and use both Apple and Android. That's because each had something the other lacked. But, for the first time ever, I can finally return my iPad and feel like I'm not really missing out on anything.

DESIGN -
 Out of the box, initial impressions are very good. The tablet has a great solid feel to it, it's comfortable to hold, thin, and yes, even light weight. The back has a hard, smooth, plastic feel to it - although I hear its aluminum. If so, it probably has some type of coating on it. Basically, it's one nice looking tablet.
So your hand will frequently rub against the sharp inside edges of the plastic casing. I'm normally not a big fan of plastic covers, but in this instance, it would have been very nice to have. If you're planning on getting a case, this won't likely be an issue.

WIRELESS -

I've tested both wireless and GPS extensively and found them to both perform very well. I'm able to maintain a solid WiFi connection even at the furthest reaches of my Access Point. And GPS can actually pick up a few satellite in-doors, which is always impressive. Outside I can get accuracy down to less than 18ft, within 1-2 minutes. This of course was verified with the GPS Test application.

PERFORMANCE-

Overall the device is very snappy and I haven't had any issues that I didn't run into with the other Tegra3 devices on Android 4.0.3. There are still a few occasional bugs or glitches with ICS, which I hope they'll resolve soon. Otherwise, nothing specific to the AT305.
Until they have some new benchmarks that really take advange of the quad core CPU and Tegra3, they're just something to give you interesting numbers to look at. :) Real world tests are where it's at. Speaking of which, playing Tegra 3 games is smooth and they all run expectedly nice. Surfing the web, running apps, and other such tasks are all as expected. Quite good.

After watching movies and playing games, I got temps as high as 93 degrees on the back, right side. This was determined by my infrared thermometer. It's not as cool as the 85 degree TF201 but also nowhere near the 106+ degree A510. So I consider that to be on the warm side, but not uncomfortably so. I think the material on the back Toshiba uses helps to dissipate the heat so it doesn't "feel" hot or uncomfortable.

While surfing or running normal apps, the temps were staying in the 80's where it should be.

DISPLAY:

Starting positive here, the LCD does look very nice. In fact, of the TF201 and A510, it's the nicest I've seen. Even though it's not IPS (it's TFT as I recall), it looks great. The images are very crisp, colors are vibrant, and it has surprisingly good contrast ratio. The best part is that they've found a very nice color temperature balance.

While the A510 was very cool and the TF201 was on the warm side, I found the AT305 to quite neutral. This makes it very pleasing to use whether you are reading, surfing, playing games, or watching a movie.
In fact, just powering on the tablet, you'll see this on the Toshiba logo as it has a black background. It was exactly the same with both AT305's I got. And it's not something I ever experienced with any other tablet I've owned or used. Normally, this is considered a defect and swapping it out would resolve the issue. But based on my experience and countless other reviews/posts on-line, this is quite common with the AT305.

Whether you call it a defect, poor build quality, or a cheap display, it's not desirable.

BATTERY:

Just in general, when you make something smaller, you tend to make some sacrifices. In this case, it was the battery life. To test it out, I started with a fully charged battery. Then basically used it non-stop until I got down to 20% remaining, at which point we were right at 6 hours of usage. This isn't very good. Although keeping mind this is "heavy" usage. I was downloading a bunch of apps, playing games, watching movies, and even ran a benchmark or two during that time.

So I'd say heavy usage, you're looking at 7+ hours. Personally I don't like allowing the battery get much lower than 20%, so that's normally about the time I'm looking for a power cord. And yes, the power adapter is straight out of the 90's. There's no reason it needs to be that big; but it is, and I got over it.
SPEAKERS
As with the A510, the AT305 has down-firing speakers at the bottom, and there are in fact two of them (unlike the TF201). They are backed by Toshiba and SRS enhancements, which are definitely needed. If these sound enhancements are turned off, the sound is horrible. But with them on, the speakers actually sound pretty descent.


So let's wrap this one up.
